Hey! I'm Jaz :) Here is a quick take of my career
>> What I'm currently doing
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington in Seattle. Almost done, yay!
>> What I've done
Developed closed-loop deep-brain stimulators (DBS) for psychiatric disorders, synced cameras for 3D pose estimation to monitor behavior, used AI to uncover underlying neural patterns, processed visual neural and retinal data, and optimized the usability of wearable rehabilitation systems with multimodal sensing.
>> What motivates me
I believe that having a holistic view of my work—spanning hardware development, human-machine interaction, and patient-centered design—is essential to advancing neurotechnology therapies. These devices should not only be innovative but also designed to work in tandem with patients, ensuring they are intuitive and truly address their needs.
My motivation for pursuing this field lies in others' experiences. When I talk to friends and family about mood disorders, the topic of antidepressants come up--among other things. Its the same conclusion of how it never really works for them. This is why I do what I do. I just want to help my friends and folks going through the same thing, whether it be psychiatric disorders or neurological disorders.
